Plastic Recycling

 

JWELL pelletizing lines recycle post-consumer and industrial plastics such as PP, PE, PS and ABS into reusable pellets. Single screw systems support capacities up to 1,800kg/h for stable recycling production.

Precautions for Using JWELL Pelletizing Extrusion Lines

 

Walk around before you hit “Start”

Every morning, take 5 minutes to walk the line. Check that screw, barrel, die, and cutter are tight – loose parts cause bigger problems later. Hit the emergency stop button to make sure it works. Look at the gearbox oil – if it looks milky or smells burnt, don't run. Also, confirm cooling water is flowing; no flow means overheating fast. This short routine stops most unplanned downtime before it starts.

 

Don't rush the warm-up

The controller may show the set temperature, but the metal inside isn't evenly hot yet. Always hold at target for 20–30 extra minutes before starting the screw. Watch each heating zone – if one zone constantly overshoots or lags, your thermocouple might be loose or the heater failing. For PET or other moisture-sensitive materials, make sure your feed is dried below 0.5% – otherwise you'll get brittle, hydrolyzed pellets. And keep melt pressure under 80% of the gauge max.

 

Garbage in, garbage out – protect your screw

The fastest way to ruin a screw is letting metal bits, sand, or dirt into the hopper. They act like grinding paste. Install a magnetic separator and a metal detector ahead of the extruder – it's cheap insurance. Also, keep your flake size consistent; big chunks cause bridging and surging. For recycled material, moisture is another hidden killer – dry it well. Clean your magnets daily – you'll be surprised how much steel dust they catch.

 

Watch the gauges – they talk to you

During production, don't just set the speed and walk away. Keep an eye on melt pressure and motor current. If pressure keeps creeping up, your screen pack is clogging – plan a change before it spikes and trips the breaker. If current rises while output stays flat, your screw may be wearing or a bearing is getting tight. Also, grab a handful of pellets now and then – tails, fines, or uneven size tell you the die or cutter needs attention. Log the numbers, not just “OK”.

 

Shut it down the right way – don't just kill power

Stop feeding 5–10 minutes early, then gradually slow the screw. Turn off heaters but keep cooling running until the barrel drops below 100°C – this prevents carbonized polymer sticking to the screw. For sticky or high-viscosity materials, push through some cleaning compound or low-MI PE to purge residue. After it cools, pull the die and cutter, and clean with a copper brush – never use steel tools that scratch the surfaces. Your next startup will be much smoother.

 

Keep spare blades and stick to a maintenance schedule

Change gearbox oil after the first 500 hours, then every 2,000 hours (or sooner if it looks dirty). Measure your screw outer diameter every six months – if you see more than 0.5mm wear, arrange for hardfacing repair before it affects output. Check cutter blades weekly; replace them when the wear exceeds 0.5mm. And here's a golden rule: always have one fully sharpened spare blade set on the shelf – waiting for regrinding can cost you an entire shift. Also, retighten heater bands monthly – thermal expansion loosens them over time.
